I am always thinking for a perfect purple and I think the color of lavender may just as well give me another thought of definition in terms of nuance. :)
It's difficult to translate the poems from one language into another language, because the meaning in one language is not the same as in another language and its essence could be lost during the translation. Moreover, some experience or thought could only be felt or identified within the context of certain specific culture.
I am not an expert in literature, history or language and I have to admit that I have my limitations in English and Chinese. However, if you are interested you can visit the following Web site to view the English translations of the 300 Tang Poems. I read some of the translations and personally found them quite interesting. You will find most of the poems quoted in "The Pearl Princess".
The Web address is:
At the main page, click on the side bar "BROWSE ALL 300 POEMS". Scroll all the way down to view the Chinese/English text. You can also click on the side bar "SEARCH ALL 300 POEMS" to quickly access the desired poem if you know how to conduct the search. Good luck, my friend!
